From Skype meetings at their kitchen table to arriving at the fabulous Thornbridge Hall for their wedding, – every part of being with Katherine and Ed was a total delight. Two wonderful people who had an amazing wedding day. Thank you so much for having us as your Thornbridge Hall Wedding Photographer.
Kat & Ed’s winter wedding at Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire was held in December 2015 and it was a beautiful, crisp day. The bride and her best ladies were getting ready in one of the fabulous bedrooms at the hall. Kat’s close friend Bonnie was make-up artist for the day and did such an amazing job. Definitely her calling if she ever fancies a career change!
When the boys arrived at Thornbridge, Tobiah went off to catch up with them while Laura stayed with the ladies. The morning went so quickly, possibly from all the chatting with Kat’s amazing mum, Bernadette, with topics ranging from holidays to the Inland Revenue! Haha
As anticipation started to build in the Great Hall below, Katherine and her bridesmaids were all ready to go. Taking her proud dad’s arm, she headed down the grand staircase to marry Ed.
With guests seated around them and some looking on from over the banisters, Kat and Ed exchanged their vows and sealed their brand new titles of Mr and Mrs with a kiss.
They were showered with confetti as they ventured outside after the ceremony, if only for a short while as it was pretty cold, before going back into Thornbridge for a warm and some champagne & canapés.
Although the light fades pretty quickly in the wintertime, this didn’t stop us being able to take the all important family photographs and some portraits of Katherine and Edward too before the wedding breakfast in the Carriage House.
The Carriage House looked stunning and had the most wonderful scent filling the room courtesy of Mimosa and Violette Diptyque candles burning on top of the piano.
As guests were seated for dinner, we continued snapping away before the starters were served.
After dinner came the speeches. We love this time of the wedding day! Tales ranging from totally embarrassing recollections to real tear-jerkers. It’s great to capture people’s reactions as these stories and sentiments are relayed, not just the bride and groom or the head table, but everyone. Sometimes it’s a guest sat in the corner of the room who has the best laugh or a grandparent who looks super proud as they are hearing about what an amazing person their grandson or granddaughter has become and achieved.
Following the speeches came the dancing! As The Revs started playing, the guests filled the dance floor. Kat & Ed’s breezy approach to life came in handy when some guests made an anagram of the giant LED letters spelling ‘THE SMITHS’ (taking away the ‘M’) to something else a little less savoury! We’ll leave you to work that out!
Meanwhile, huge thanks to Michael and the team at Thornbridge Hall. We had the best time and loved this winter wedding so much. Congratulations to Kat & Edward!
