After last night’s welcome dinner – a pizza and prosecco night looking over the sea, the big day was here! We arrived at the hotel to capture the morning’s of Amy with her bridesmaids and Tom and the gents. In true Italian style, the sun was shining and the excitement of the wedding was in the air. As a wedding photography duo, this is something we love to do. We can tell both sides of the story of the bride and groom. At Hotel Antiche Mura the ladies were having make-up and hair done and the boys were enjoying a limoncello or two. We can’t blame them! When in Rome, right? After all of the groomsmen had finished getting ready and after one for the road, Tom and the gents headed to the Clositers where the ceremony would take place. This stunning open air building in the centre of Sorrento is such magical setting for an Italian wedding. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle outside, this oasis in such a busy city is as unique as it is beautiful. Chiostro di San Francesco weddings are always some of our favourites! Back at the hotel, Amy was ready to get into her wedding dress. She had chosen a stunning lace dress from Lulu Brown’s in Whalley, Lancashire. Once in her dress and ready to go, the doorbell rang. Amy’s dad, Phil had arrived to give the youngest of his two daughters away. A little teary eyed but holding it together they both made their way downstairs where the car was waiting.
Providing some welcome shade, the guests had been seated inside the Cloisters awaiting the bride’s arrival. Pulling up in their vintage VW Beetle convertible, Amy and her dad certainly arrived in style. Leading the way, Amy’s mum and little niece, Amelia made their way inside to start the walk down the aisle. Tom and Ste were waiting at the top of the aisle as the bridesmaids made their way towards them followed by Amy and her dad.
The Italian wedding ceremony is usually a simple affair, Amy and Tom had chosen two readings given by Tom’s mum and Amy’s close friend, Tiffany. As the end to the ceremony was sealed with a kiss, the guests filtered out on to the sunny streets of Sorrento armed with confetti.
After a few congratulations and lots of hugs and kisses, Amy and Tom left for Villa Antiche Mura.
This exclusive villa just a few minutes from the centre of Sorrento is a hidden gem! Once a private family home, Villa Antiche Mura boasts a private beach on the Sorrento peninsula and panoramic views of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. The team here at Villa Antiche Mura made us feel so welcome and Michele especially was wonderful. Amy & Tom arrived to champagne and sea views ready to welcome their guests. We took a few relaxed portraits in the gardens before everyone arrived for the apertivo. The relaxed atmosphere and ambience created by a local harpist and the sound of the sea made the setting ever more magical. As Sorrento wedding photographers, this is a place we hope to return to very soon! Before the wedding breakfast was served in traditional 7 course Italian style, it was time for the speeches. Amy’s dad began, followed by Tom and finally Steve – who was still buzzing that Tom had bought him some Ray Bans as a gift that morning! Very handy on the sunniest day ever. With tears and laughter, the speeches were complete. Time for some cocktails! When in Sorrento it’s only natural to have a Limoncello Spritz or two. Before the cake cutting and first dance, the guests enjoyed the sunset over the sea and relaxing on the terrace.
We stole Amy and Tom away for about 20 minutes for some portraits on the villa’s private beach. The sunset provided the perfect backdrop for some relaxed wedding photographs by the sea. Our time as Villa Antiche Mura wedding photographers was a pleasure from beginning to end! Thank you to Amy & Tom for inviting us to Italy for their Sorrento wedding, enjoy the photographs!
Our time in Italy was so special and we loved every moment. We have been fortunate to visit this part of Italy several times for wonderful weddings!
