A Wedding Weekend at Achnagairn Estate

After our whirlwind trip to Italy with three weddings in three different cities, we landed back in the UK and set off to Scotland for the magnificent wedding of Ella and Ross. Having chatted only on Skype before the big day, we were eager to meet them. Speaking to them from our living room sofa, we knew we’d get on and we weren’t wrong!

Pre-wedding BBQ

We arrived at Achnagairn for the weekend’s festivities and met the lovely bride and groom-to-be preparing for their guests to arrive. We checked in to our charming room at the top of the castle and took to photographing the pre-wedding party!

Although the weather was a little temperamental, everybody enjoyed the delicious food and BBQ outside and drinks in the lounge. The whole evening had such a wonderful atmosphere from the infectious smiles and happiness of Ross and Ella to the excitement of guests arriving from near and far to celebrate with their wedding with them this weekend. Speaking of which, on to the wedding day!

The Wedding Day

Ella and her bridesmaids were getting ready with her mum and Ross’ mum in the Happily Ever After suite at Achnagairn with the help of Lisa Hart on make-up and Jenna Cooke on hair. Ella had chosen a stunning Galia Lahav wedding dress, the details on Galia Lahav gowns are exquisite, certainly one of our favourite designers.

The morning seemed to disappear (time flies when you’re having fun!) and after Tobiah had been to photograph Ross and the guys in their kilts, he headed off to the centre of Inverness or the ceremony with the rest of the guests, Meanwhile, it was time for Ella to get into her wedding dress.

With the help from her bridesmaids and adding the finishing touches of the perfect Badgley Mischka shoes, Ella looked breathtaking and the beautiful bride was ready to go. Meeting her dad at the bottom of the staircase at Achnagairn, they walked out to the cars and we set off for Inverness Cathedral.

Wedding Ceremony at Inverness Cathedral

The ceremony was wonderful and featured a reading from one of the bridesmaids. After sealing it all with a kiss and signing the register, the newlyweds exited the cathedral out to be met with cheers and lots of confetti from their guests.

We took Ross and Ella for a few quick photographs near to the cathedral on the riverside to give the guest a head start getting to Achnagairn, their just-married smiles and happiness were so lovely to see, smiles that didn’t leave their faces all day.

At Achnagairn, Ross and Ella relaxed with their guests, enjoying drinks and canapés and a few more portraits and family photographs before it was time to be seated in the ballroom for the wedding breakfast and speeches. The ballroom had been transformed by the talented team at Jordana Events and looked awesome! Also, nestling within the table centrepieces were little bottles of Glenfiddich and a bottle of Pan Tadeusz vodka as a nod to Ella’s Polish roots for the traditional toasts.

After the speeches and Ella’s brother as MC (assisted by his little boy who kept trying to eat the microphone!) it was time for the wedding breakfast. Despite their full bellies everyone took to the dance floor with their bride and groom for a traditional ceilidh from the superb Phase 4 band.

Dancing well into the early hours, it was clear that everyone had had the most memorable day celebrating with Ella and Ross, but it wasn’t over yet.

Boat Trips on the Loch & Zubrowka

Bright and early a few from the wedding party set off with the brand-new Mr & Mrs McDonald for a boat trip on Loch Ness after a home cooked Polish breakfast. When they came back and the rest of us had surfaced, it was time for more food and Zubrowka! The atmosphere, just like it had been all weekend, was relaxed and welcoming to everyone there. All of Ella & Ross’ guests made us feel part of the family and especially Ross and Ella who were unbelievable hosts with boundless energy and generosity. We loved spending time with them and feel so grateful they chose us to photograph their Achnagairn Castle wedding weekend, na zdrowie!
